Evidence and testing of hot water as a method of weed control
We have been busy researching weed control and to find examples and evidence of how hot water is effective for weed control
HOW WEED CONTROL WORKS – EXPERIMENTS AND EVIDENCE
Hot water is chemical free and contains zero contaminants. It’s also one of the most effective natural transmitters of thermal energy. All of our weed control systems deliver a low pressure of hot water via an applicator to impact with weeds – destroying the cellular structure of the plant and roots.
EVIDENCE FOR RUNNING COSTS
An independent trial conducted by the German Armed Forces found that controlling weeds with hot water was at least 3 times more efficient to operate in terms of overall costs than hot foam, and half of the cost of other methods.
EVIDENCE FOR THE TREATMENT AND FREQUENCY
Dr. Palle Kristoffersen of the University of Copenhagen conducted an independent experiment which concluded that hot water required the least number of treatments (3 per year over a 2 year cycle). This resulted in the least amount of regrowth and weed coverage versus all other alternatives.
EVIDENCE OF HOT WATER BEING THE MOST EFFECTIVE
Dr. Ir B. De Cauwe of The University of Ghent also carried out a trial which found that hot water has the highest thermal conductivity and heat capacity. This means that hot water results in the greatest kill ratio compared to other methods that were tested. “The hot water system can be applied accurately and the heat penetrates the root of the weed, killing it in a way that has no negative impact on our water, environment, staff or wildlife.” stated Dr. Ir B. De Cauwe
